Cenote Chelentún

Description

It's a semi closed type cenote inside a grotto. One of the most visited given it is part of the cenote circuit of Cuzamá. 8 meter long concrete staircase and a wooden platform to access the water.

The water mirror is blue and measures 48 meters long by 20 meters wide, with a maximum depth of 15 meters.

It was used in times of the henequen boom by the landowners as a bathing place, of what some vestiges still remain. It is managed by an ejido group who provides maintenance to the installations, charging a small entry fee in return. It is recommended to use life jackets, avoid using sunblocks and to be very careful when descending the stairs.

How to arrive

This cenote is located 57 km from Merida city. Get to the town of Cuzamá, head south to Chunkakán hacienda where transportation is taken on the town's tourist center. 3km to the west using the truck. (Narrow-gauge railway where a rustic platform is pulled by horses).
